About the Editor

Rebecca Newman has a Bachelor of Arts (English and Psychology) from the University of Western Australia, and a Graduate Certificate of Editing and Publishing from The University of Southern Queensland.

Rebecca is a member of the Society of Editors (WA) and has a Working With Children card.

Internet safety and children

We recommend that children provide your contact details (rather than their own) when sending material to the magazine.

Alphabet Soup magazine may send email to those on the mailing list, to confirm that a child’s story, poem or writing tips question will appear in an upcoming issue of the magazine, or to notify the winners of our writing competitions. If you ever receive email from a different address (claiming to be Alphabet Soup magazine) or email from us that seems to be unusual or inappropriate, please let us know so that we can follow it up and warn others.

Do you have advertising in the magazine?

We do not currently include advertising, though we do acknowledge the sponsor of our subscribers draw and include a photograph (prize pack from children's book publisher.)

Occasionally, competitions may be sponsored by a book-related company (such as a bookstore or publisher) and this will be acknowledged in the magazine.

We have added an activities section to our blog. You'll find suggested activities to match the theme of each issue (starting from issue 7), and a listening list compiled by Danielle Joynt from Cantaris.
