AUTUMN STORY COMPETITION - WIN A $20 BOOK VOUCHER!

Entries close 12 April 2013  1 May 2013 (deadline extended)

Please note that the competition is still running - even with the closure of the magazine. We accept emailed entries (if you include a scan of the entry form) and mailed entries that are postmarked at the closing date or earlier.

Write a story about your mum's secret superpower. It might be an imaginary superpower, like flying. Perhaps her secret superpower is that she can grow the biggest tomatoes, can kick a football further than anyone in the world or always knows the time without looking at a clock. What's your mum's secret superpower? Word limit: 500 words. (It's OK if your story is shorter than this but don't go over the word limit!)

Include a competition entry form. This may be printed from this website (see competition rules below), photocopied, or contact us to have one emailed or posted to you.

Entries are judged in three age categories: under 7s, under 9s, and under 12s. There is one winner chosen for each category. Winners receive a $20 book voucher. Runners-up receive an honorary mention certificate.

Your entry can be handwritten or typed. Make a copy of your entry as we cannot return entries.

General competition rules:

The judges' decision is final.

Immediate family members of Alphabet Soup Publishing are not eligible to enter.

Unless otherwise stated, children aged 13 or older at the closing date of the competition are not eligible to enter.

Children do not have to subscribe to Alphabet Soup magazine to enter the competition. However, unless otherwise stated, winners are not automatically sent a copy of the magazine. If you are not a subscriber and you'd like to purchase a copy of the issue that includes your winning entry (or an extract of it), you are welcome to order a copy online (see the 'subscribe' page - you can purchase single copies here too!) or purchase one from one of our stockists.

We cannot accept joint entries. (This means you can't work on your entry with a friend.)

By entering a poetry or short-story competition, you agree to us publishing the entry (if it is a winner) on the magazine's blog.  Entries published on the blog will only include your first name, age and state.

Use a competition entry form as a cover page for your entry. (Print the PDF of the form.) To be eligible for the competition, the copyright declaration on the cover page must be signed by you and your parent or guardian.
